Landscapes

A decade of being an artistic residence on various painting trips in Southern Spain and Turkey influence the immediacy and emotional response to the landscape in my art. My process is intuitive as I envisage a scene which begins as a series of fault lines and gestural brushstrokes and ‘fleshing out’ the painting as if working from the inside out. My colour starts with a series of complementaries seeking to move the eye around the painting, giving an ‘experiential’ appreciation of my art. Works created on location and based on sketches during painting trips landscapes reflecting heat and reflecting local colour palette. Landscape as a moving form is a recurrent theme in my art.

Paintings inspired by walks in Gloucestershire my UK base. I also take groups out walking and painting with small holiday providers and my work is often influenced by other UK landscapes such as the Yorkshire Dales and Cornwall.
